What is longarm quilting?

I work on a machine called a longarm quilting machine.

It allows me to quilt patterns without having to move the fabric around as it is the case with standard sewing machines. Work on large pieces is therefore easier without risks of shirring on the top or on the back.

Each layer (top, duffel, back) is rolled independantly around the bars of the machine.

There are several ways of apprehending quilting with a longarm machine :

  • All over pattern : same pattern on the whole quilt.
  • All over pattern with border : with a different pattern for the border.
  • Free hand : quilting pattern follows the shape of the different blocks on the top.
  • Simple meandering : zig-zag kind puzzle.

As imagination is used, many combinations are possible and can be achieved on demand!
